in the wide lake

boulders visible beneath

the fragile canoe

rustle of leaves–

a blue jay takes flight

from the plum tree

in the attic

whispering into

my parents’ crank telephone

rainy season

we climb the mountain

for some sky

scrabblings

where the plover ran

random thoughts

while we talk his unruly hair lifts off his forehead

crow caw shatters the silence between composers

another life another time watch out for us
